SCREENING ON THE BEACH | WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S

Description :

The concert / performance / event will be in the Greek language

This Monday, we’re turning the clocks back 40 years.

We’re putting on our best summer mood, grabbing our swimsuits and shorts, and stretching out on the sand of Kalamata Beach. Filmhouse / Kalamata Film Club and EGO are taking us straight back to the ’80s — when comedies apologized to no one and a dead body could easily be the life of the party.

Because this Monday, there are no guilty pleasures.
Only pleasures.

Larry and Richard are two young employees who uncover financial fraud at their company and, believing they are doing the right thing, report it to their boss, Bernie. Bernie then invites them to spend an idyllic weekend at his luxurious seaside house — except things don’t quite go according to plan.

When the two friends arrive, they find Bernie… slightly less alive than they had hoped.

From that moment on, logic takes a vacation.

The two decide that the best possible solution is to convince everyone that Bernie is still alive. And so begins one of the most outrageous, macabre and gloriously silly comedies of the ’80s, complete with parties, beaches, chases and a brilliant Terry Kiser, who somehow manages the impossible: stealing the entire movie while spending most of it… dead.

Weekend at Bernie’s is pure summer cinema: no overthinking, no guilt and absolutely no serious intention of teaching us anything.

Just an excuse to laugh, have a drink by the sea and remember how wonderfully absurd the ’80s could be.

A special summer screening by Filmhouse / Kalamata Film Club and EGO, right on the sand of Kalamata Beach.

Organizers :

The New Kalamata Film Club was established to fill the gap left by the city’s former distinguished film society and to respond to the long-standing absence of quality cinema in Kalamata. It is a non-profit cultural organisation dedicated to film and cinematic culture.

The Club’s primary aim is to undertake initiatives that promote cinema and encourage local filmmaking and audiovisual creativity.

To achieve this, the New Kalamata Film Club organises screenings of films representing a wide range of cinematic movements, directors and filmmakers. Its plans also include special events aimed at highlighting Greek cinema and promoting film as an art form, as well as the development of a film archive and the organisation of lectures, conferences, workshops and other educational and cultural activities.

The New Kalamata Film Club is already a member of the Federation of Film Societies of Greece. It works closely with the Municipality of Kalamata and “FARIS”, the Municipality’s public-benefit cultural organisation, while also actively seeking partnerships with other cultural organisations, initiatives and institutions.
