Thomas, a mild-mannered, insignificant, and lonely bank clerk, is terrified to discover that he is the spitting image of a notorious, wanted criminal known to the press as "The Ogre". Misidentified and pursued by the police, he seeks refuge in a seedy underground cabaret. There, a gang of criminals mistakes him for the actual mastermind and accepts him as their leader. Fascinated by the sudden respect and importance his otherwise miserable life has gained, Thomas decides to embrace the persona of "The Ogre", until harsh reality catches up with him.
