The Victoria Karelias Collection of Traditional Greek Costumes presents the photography exhibition “Roots and Bonds: Memories of Companionship from Takis Tloupas’ Greece.”
A unique encounter between photographic art and material tradition, highlighting the timeless relationship between people and their homeland.
Through the lens of Takis Tloupas, Greece is not a simple scenery, but a living memory. His photographs narrate a deep sense of companionship between humans, nature and time.
In this exhibition, his work enters into dialogue with the Greek costumes of the Collection: just as a garment embodies the labor and values of its maker, Tloupas’ images preserve the intangible world of everyday life — the gaze, the gesture and the silence.
Takis Tloupas photographs with the patience of a craftsman, seeking the moment when an image becomes a timeless truth. Shepherds, fishermen, and farmers are depicted on a human scale, inviting the viewer to become an equal interlocutor with the landscape.
The exhibition “Roots and Bonds” functions as a place where tradition ceases to be nostalgia and becomes knowledge and responsibility, bringing the past back into the present as an act of love for both humanity and nature.

from 14 March 2026 to 19 April 2026 at Tue-Sat 09:00-14:00 (Wed. & Sat. και 17:30-20:30), Sunday 10:00-14:00.

Organizers :

The Victoria G. Karelias Collection of greek traditional costumes was created, initially as a private collection, by the founding member and long-standing president of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Kalamata, V. Karelias. The fruit of 50 years of dedicated effort, it was bestowed on the Lyceum, to be henceforth curated by an institution widely recognised for its contribution to the preservation and promotion of Greek tradition. Ever since, as a token of gratitude and based on a unanimous decision of the Administrative Board of the Lyceum, it has born the name of the collector.

The Collection hosts, among other things, periodic exhibitions of important Greek artists that, in contrast to the permanent exhibits, prove that tradition is not a sealed space but a living organism that constantly and diversely interacts with its wider environment and is rediscovered over and over again over the course of time.
