MONIKA
Description :
The brilliant and unique songwriter Monika, who has gained great recognition, both in and outside Greece, is coming on Wednesday, July 16th to the Courtyard of the Greek Costume Collection "Victoria G. Karelia", with a purely English-speaking program that includes everything we have loved about her, from the first moment she appeared on the music scene. She will offer us a different, acoustic concert, along with 5 musicians and her wonderful songs! Monika will be accompanied by strings (cello, violin), acoustic guitar, and two excellent voices, while she herself will play guitar, saxophone, and piano.
The program will include both new and old, favorite songs from her previous albums, but with different orchestrations. Starting with “Avatar” and featuring many songs from her latest album, “Proud”, as well as from her three other English-language releases, Monika will offer us, with her smile, talent, and generous presence on stage, 2 full hours of wonderful music, emotion, and sharing. Above all, her deep desire is to share the journey of music with the audience and to offer peace and support.
Monika stated, “The most beautiful journey is the one that is given to you through a song. Whether you close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the melody, whether you look around, whether you are moved, sing or dance, or keep the rhythm with your hands, in the company of your loved ones, you always gain the most precious gift of a journey, change. And then everything is clearer. More beautiful. With meaning.”
With her wonderful melodies prevailing above all, and lyrics that capture in the most poetic and tender way all the emotions, thoughts and messages she wants to convey, Monika promises us a cinematic journey full of emotion and rhythm and invites us to meet there “to travel far, through music and songs and return even a little changed and more true”.
Organizers :
The Victoria G. Karelias Collection of greek traditional costumes was created, initially as a private collection, by the founding member and long-standing president of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Kalamata, V. Karelias. The fruit of 50 years of dedicated effort, it was bestowed on the Lyceum, to be henceforth curated by an institution widely recognised for its contribution to the preservation and promotion of Greek tradition. Ever since, as a token of gratitude and based on a unanimous decision of the Administrative Board of the Lyceum, it has born the name of the collector.
The Collection hosts, among other things, periodic exhibitions of important Greek artists that, in contrast to the permanent exhibits, prove that tradition is not a sealed space but a living organism that constantly and diversely interacts with its wider environment and is rediscovered over and over again over the course of time.
