Literary Byzantine Poetry
Description :
A unique and original presentation of Byzantine poetic speech (panegyrical, love, and satirical), through the reading of twenty poems in the Byzantine archaic language, will give you the opportunity to enjoy — with free admission — inside the historic Byzantine church of the Holy Apostles, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 18:30 to 19:15. Passersby will be able to attend the event by entering small groups, due to the limited capacity of the church. Additionally, because of the small number of texts, their reading will be repeated so that more people can experience this special event during their brief stay inside the church.
The direction and scenography of the event are by the multifaceted Dimitris Iliopoulos, who, together with actress and director Olga Alexandropoulou, will introduce us to Byzantine poetry through their recitations.
*The event is under the auspices and support of the Holy Metropolis of Messinia and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messinia.

The organizing body KALLIERGON syn – Non-Profit Organization (A.M.K.E.) is a cultural initiative with a vision based on the power of "together" to create a sustainable, culturally rich, and environmentally healthy society. Based in Neohori Lefktrou, Western Mani, in the "Gonatsa" region of Peloponnese, the organization aims to provide innovative services that promote the exchange and dissemination of cultural elements, as well as address important environmental and social issues.

This parallel activity is part of the broader framework of an innovative and alternative cultural initiative titled "Poiitikoi Dromoi" ("Poetic Pathways"), which combines poetry with the exploration of public space. It promotes reading, Greek letters, universal values, and an experiential relationship with the environment.
It is characterized by mass participation, wider access to poetry, and the revitalization of the city's cultural experience. It presents art as a vibrant, everyday experience and enhances collaboration, inclusion, and the local economy. It builds cultural bridges within Greece, with a European dimension, welcoming expatriates and philhellenes.
The activity is under the auspices and support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Holy Metropolis of Messinia, and the Municipality of Kalamata, with the support of the Kalamata Community, in collaboration with the Chamber of Messinia.
