Group Exhibition of the Parents’ Art Workshops of “Grandmother’s Garden” Model Nursery & Kindergarten
EVSTATHIA I. KOSTOPOULOU FOUNDATION in collaboration with the Victoria Karelia's Collection of Traditional Greek Costumes.
In the exhibition “7 Women Weaving the Present,” the title refers not only to the artistic act, but to life itself.
The seven creators of this group did not begin their journeys as artists. They are the women next door—mothers who, each morning, entrust the most precious part of their lives at the threshold of the nursery school and, during the time they have intentionally set aside, participate in the school’s Parents’ Art Workshops. For a while, they set aside the roles of everyday life and “weave” a new identity. The works they present have found inspiration and a meaningful point of reference in the Victoria Karelia's Collection of Traditional Greek Costumes. The recognition of the labor and dedication of women from past generations has served as a catalyst for their own artistic expression.
This exhibition celebrates their courage in presenting themselves publicly for the first time, demonstrating that engagement with art is not a luxury of time, but a necessity of the soul.

The Efstathia I. Kostopoulou Foundation was established on the occasion of the inauguration of the Central Building of "Pisteos Bank" in Athens on February 20, 1987, when the Kostopoulos family announced their initiative to support the reconstruction of Kalamata following the devastating earthquakes of 1986. As a tangible contribution, the creation of a model nursery school was decided, aiming to support families with limited financial resources.
Today’s Alpha Bank fully funded the construction and equipment of the Nursery School and Kindergarten “Grandmother’s Garden,” built on land donated by the family. Since opening in 1994, the school has welcomed approximately 60 children annually and has supported more than 1,000 children to date.
With a vision focused on holistic education, the Foundation provides modern, child-focused preschool education, emphasising experiential learning and the overall development of children, particularly those from socially vulnerable backgrounds.
The Victoria G. Karelias Collection of Traditional Greek Costumes was created, initially as a private collection, by the founding member and long-standing president of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Kalamata, V. Karelias. The fruit of 50 years of dedicated effort was bestowed on the Lyceum to be henceforth curated by an institution widely recognised for its contribution to the preservation and promotion of Greek tradition. Ever since, as a token of gratitude and based on a unanimous decision of the Administrative Board of the Lyceum, it has born the name of the collector.
The Collection hosts, among other things, periodic exhibitions of important Greek artists that, in contrast to the permanent exhibits, prove that tradition is not a sealed space but a living organism that constantly and diversely interacts with its wider environment and is rediscovered over and over again over the course of time.
