The incredible story of the pianist 1900, who was born on a ship and never got off it, It travels and occurs mainly in decentralized areas. Where there is a need for a cultural opportunity.
After 7 years of traveling and valuable meetings with locals from all over Greece, Lemon – conceived, artistically directed and produced by Melachrinos Velentzas – continues to find its setting in unexpected places such as anchored ships, at sea, beaches, jetties, lemon groves, village squares, shipwrecks, etc.
The story of the legendary pianist, embodied on stage by Melachrinos Velentzas (1900) and Giorgos Drivas (trumpeter Tim Tunney) has been watched by a total of 21,640 spectators in 173 performances throughout Greece. For the creative team of Lemon, each performance is unique, adding another lemon to the cage of this independent production. Lemon embraces the need of each place for a cultural opportunity by connecting the dots of our collective map.
🍋 The project’s premise
The project takes place at the beginning of the last century on the steamship Virginian, which makes the transatlantic voyage from Europe to America. A newborn baby is abandoned by his immigrant parents in a box of lemons on the piano with the tail, in the first class ballroom. Ο A sailor who finds it gives it his own name: Danny Budman and with it the nickname Ti Dee Lemmon (from the box of lemons) adding 1900 (from the year he found it). Ο In 1900 he would become the greatest pianist of the Ocean and will have trumpet player Tim Tunney as his only friend, which urges him to come ashore and know another life.
