Honoring tribute to Messinian poet Giorgos Markopoulos

As part of the parallel events of the "Poiitikoi Dromoi" ("Poetic Pathways") project organized by the non-profit organization KALLIERGON syn, a tribute to Messinian poet Giorgos Markopoulos will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025. Entrance is free, with the event starting at 8:00 PM. The event will take place at the REGINA Multi-purpose Hall of the Municipal Cultural Center of Kalamata, which was recently inaugurated. The hall is located on the ground floor, outside the building, with entrance from the Pandazopoulou pedestrian street.
The inspiration for the event comes from journalist Maria Tomara, who is responsible for the coordination and presentation of the tribute. Poems will be read by actors and directors Kostas Chalkias and Olga Alexandropoulou, who are related to the poet by family ties.

The organizing body KALLIERGON syn – Non-Profit Organization (A.M.K.E.) is a cultural initiative with a vision based on the power of "together" to create a sustainable, culturally rich, and environmentally healthy society. Based in Neohori Lefktrou, Western Mani, in the "Gonatsa" region of Peloponnese, the organization aims to provide innovative services that promote the exchange and dissemination of cultural elements, as well as address important environmental and social issues.
Its activities are implemented through collaborations both in Greece and internationally, with the goal of strengthening solidarity, cultural exchange, and environmental awareness.

This parallel event is part of the broader framework of an innovative and alternative cultural project titled "Poiitikoi Dromoi" ("Poetic Pathways"), which combines poetry with the exploration of public space. It promotes reading, Greek letters, universal values, and an experiential relationship with the environment.
It is characterized by mass participation, wider access to poetry, and the revitalization of the city's cultural experience. It presents art as a vibrant, everyday experience and enhances collaboration, inclusion, and the local economy. It builds cultural bridges within Greece, with a European dimension, welcoming expatriates and philhellenes.
The project is under the auspices and support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Holy Metropolis of Messinia, and the Municipality of Kalamata, with the support of the Kalamata Community, in collaboration with the Chamber of Messinia.
