Creative Writing Workshop: "Talking Buildings of Kalamata: Poetic Stories of Memory, Stone, and Love"
Description :
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, authors and writers Polléta Psychogyioπούλου and Eleni Kofterou will participate in the project "Poiitikoi Dromoi" ("Poetic Pathways") in a three-hour Creative Writing Workshop that they have inspired and will facilitate. This workshop is titled "Talking Buildings of Kalamata: Poetic Stories of Memory, Stone, and Love" and is organized in collaboration with the organizing body KALLIERGON syn and the Kalamata Public Library. It will take place at the Reading Room of the Public Library (5th floor), from 17:00 to 20:00.
This is a game of historical empathy and artistic interpretation of the past, through the perspective of those who… do not speak, but have much to say.
NOTE: Participation is free of charge. The number of seats is limited, so it is necessary to reserve a spot by sending a message to info@poiitikoidromoi.gr with the subject "Participation in the Creative Writing Workshop." First come, first served.
CENTRAL IDEA OF THE WORKSHOP: Participants are invited to choose a historical, old, or special building in Kalamata and give it a voice: to express themselves poetically as if the building itself is speaking. Through the power of personification and creative imagination, the building comes to life: What has it seen? What does it remember? What does it feel? Which people have passed in front of it? Who loved it and who forgot it?
The poetic expression can take various forms: pantoum, villanelle, tanka (Japanese poetry), acrostic in free verse, free verse, prose poem.
PEDAGOGICAL AND CULTURAL VALUE: fostering creative writing and imagination, connecting literature—particularly poetry—with local history and culture, enhancing observation, empathy, and poetic expression, offering an interdisciplinary approach (Literature, History, Aesthetic Education).
Organizers :
The non-profit organization KALLIERGON syn is organizing, for the first time in Kalamata, the innovative and alternative cultural project "Poiitikoi Dromoi" ("Poetic Pathways") that combines poetry with the exploration of public space. It promotes reading, Greek literature, universal values, and an experiential connection with the environment.
It is characterized by widespread participation, broader access to poetry, and a revitalization of the city's cultural experience. It presents art as a lively everyday experience and promotes collaboration, inclusion, and local economy. It builds cultural bridges within Greece, with a European dimension, hosting expatriates and philhellenes.
The initiative is under the auspices and support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Holy Metropolis of Messinia, the Municipality of Kalamata, with the support of the Kalamata Community, in collaboration with the Messinia Chamber of Commerce.
The communication sponsor is ERT Kalamata and ERT3, and it is supported by local media outlets. The main sponsor is the company UHU. Collective organizations, schools, and the artistic and commercial communities support the collective effort.
Admission is free for all.
