8th Archaeological Research and New Technologies (ARCH_RNT) Symposium – In Memoriam Nikolaos Zacharias

The 8th ARCH_RNT Symposium will be held in hybrid mode and will take place in Kalamata from 3 to 5 October, 2024. The Symposium focuses on the use of New Technologies in Archaeological Research (Archaeometry, Engineering, Computing and Digital Technologies) notably with the presentation of interdisciplinary approaches, special case studies and research on archaeological material and collections.
The 8th ARCH_RNT Symposium is implemented as a tribute to Prof. Nikolaos Zacharias, under the auspices of the Hellenic Archaeological Society (EAE). At the beginning of the conference there will be a tribute to his work, in which they will talk between
among others Emeritus Prof. Antonia Moropoulou (National Technical University of Athens), Prof. Ioannis Lyritzis (Henan University), Prof. Julian Henderson (University of Nottingham), Dr. Vassilis Kylikoglou (EKEFE Dimokritos) and the president of EAE, Dr. Maria Kaparo.
At the same time, as part of the conference, the Naming Ceremony of the “Kalamata 1821” Digital Museum will be held at the Old Town Hall of Kalamata, in honor of Prof. N. Zacharias (Thursday, October 3, at 1:10 p.m.). Also, the “New Researcher: Nikolaos Zacharias” award was instituted, which will be awarded to young scientists with significant work in the fields of dating or the study of archaeological glass, with the aim of encouraging them to continue their research.

In 2008, the first ARCH_RNT (Archaeological Research and New Technologies) Symposium took place in Kalamata, Greece. Since then, ARCH_RNT Symposia have been successfully held for over a decade. They focus on the use of New Technologies in Archaeological Research (Archaeometry, Computing Technology, Conservation and Restoration) notably with the presentation of interdisciplinary approaches, special case studies and research on archaeological material and assemblages.
