Organizers :
According to official data, in addition to all the levels of Ekpaideftiria Bougas, a total of 42 schools from across Greece are expected to participate. Over the two days, more than 3,000 students are anticipated to attend the event at the archaeological site.
The 7th Panhellenic Two-Day AthloPAIDEIA – Classical Athletics Conference at Ancient Messene is an educational, non-profit event. Through this, the ancient stadium is brought back to life, inspiring and educating in the best possible way. "Readable and educational," Ancient Messene offers visitors a true revelation—a historic city living a second life in the present.
The concepts of "athletics," "education," and "culture" coexist and interact constantly throughout time. Bougas Schools aim to pass on a core set of values that characterize ancient Greek culture through a comprehensive educational program. They seek to highlight the spirit of hospitality and noble competition, as demonstrated in Ancient Greece, especially within its natural setting.
The program of the games begins at 10:00 a.m. with the opening ceremony and concludes at 1:30 p.m. on both days (Thursday, April 3rd – for Primary Schools and Friday, April 4th – for Middle/High Schools).
The games include the following events: Road Races, Stone Throwing, Long Jump without a run-up, Javelin
The conduct of the events will feature numerous references to antiquity. Notably, we mention the "hyspliga": The mechanism used in Ancient Greece during the Olympic and other athletic competitions to prevent premature starts by the athletes.
At the same time, students will have the opportunity to explore and play ancient board games through a specially designed presentation.
